12th Annual Provincial Training Conference

The Circle of Care:

It Takes a Community…

November 19 – 21, 2009
Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown

Our 12th Annual Provincial Training Conference, The Circle of Care: It Takes A Community... held at the Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown, November 19-21, 2009, was a success. Highlights of the Annual Conference will be featured in the next issue of our newsletter, Caring for Our Children. Stay tuned!

At ACCS, a primary focus of our training and professional development events is to translate our culturally rich traditions into effective early learning and child care (ELCC) programs and services.  We believe that community involvement, leadership, and support are central to the healthy, holistic development of Aboriginal children, and we seek to promote the capacity of ELCC professionals to design and deliver programs and services that are immersed in our cultures and communities.

Aborignal Child Care Recognition Awards

Each fall, the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society honours exceptional early childhood educators and caregivers with the Aboriginal Child Care Recognition Award at our Annual Conference. This year, the Aboriginal Child Care Recognition Awards goes to: Barb Lessard (Head Teacher, Nakazdli Nursery Program, Fort St. James, BC), Leona Antione (Program Coordinator, Singing Frog Aboriginal Head Start Preschool, Vancouver, BC), and Deanna Leon-Cook (Executive Director, Splatsin Tsmaksltn Child Care Centre, Enderby, BC). The awards were presented by the Hon. Mary Polak, Minster Responsible for Child Care. Heartfelt congratulations to Barb, Leona, and Deanna! -- BC ACCS Team
