ECE Curriculum Boxes

Curriculum Boxes are big and fabulous! They contain hands-on materials that reflect First Nations traditions and are perfectly suited for little ones! These kits are available for loan to Aboriginal childcare centres and programs across British Columbia. 

Our Curriculum Boxes contain:

  • Books

 

To help guide educators we have also included planning manuals that come complete with learning objectives, age-appropriate activities, instructions for using traditional languages, suggestions for community/parent involvement, as well as a resource list of related books and videos.

The curriculum boxes are great for complimenting what educators have already planned.  For example, many childcare centres use the four seasons to guide their teachings. Our Curriculum Boxes will reinforce these ideas.

Animals and the Environment: Puppets, animal figurines, educational poster, A Salmon for Simon felt story, cedar basket, book bag based on the story Ancient Thunder, which includes a small riding horse puppet, salmon lifecycle puzzles and Gone Fishing Raven’s Tale DVD.
Aboriginal Family and Community (West Coast and Plains versions): Many activities focus around the book Two Pair of Shoes.  The content also include moccasins, The Gift felt story, First Nations Prairie People Figurines or Northwest Coast village figurines (depending which version of the box you borrow), a beading loom, a west coast drum, puppets, a matching game, books and a Native Folklore Video.

Food and Nutrition: Traditional food matching game and posters, food puzzles, Little Trapper video, a Smoking Salmon video, fun food manipulatives, a berry book, foods from the sea book, and a short unit to teach children about diabetes.

 

 

Language and Literacy: Alphabet puzzles, Northern Learning to Read Book Series, CDs, wordless books, bannock bingo and poster, Connect-the-Letter tracing activity, The Spirit of Learning CD, Bear Snores On book and activity bag, puppets, Zoe and the Fawn book and Activity Bag, DVDs, magnetic letters, picture books.
Moe the Mouse® (For Speech and Language): Moe comes in a colourful play house, along with his own photo album, many animal friends (stuffed animals and finger puppets), four children’s story books and more.  The Box includes a detailed Curriculum Book and Resource Book, plus a CD (containing resource and activity sheets), a DVD, and a training DVD.

Music and Movement: Rattles, drums, shakers, raven’s wings gloves, blocks, streamers, rhythm sticks, bell sets, maracas, CDs, a child-sized jingle dress and Jingle Dancer book, other music books and more.

 

 

Raven’s Feather Dance: Puppets, musical instruments, feathers, shakers, raven gloves, music cassettes, and the Raven’s Feather dance video.

 

 

School Readiness: Drums, rattles, alphabet bingo, letter matching, images from First Nations, number puzzles, numerous children’s books, including Red is Best felt story, body puzzle, anatomy kit, anatomy apron, color & shape puzzles.

Curriculum boxes are available on loan, free of charge to BCACCS members.
